Deck Hardware end of season round-upDeckHardware has enjoyed being part of the 2012 Heron and Cherub Nationals as well as the 46th Combined High Schools Sailing Championships (CHS) in conjunction with 34th Australian Secondary Schools Sailing Championship and 37th NSW Secondary Schools Sailing Championships. Congratulations to Greg Harris and his crew Kai Johnston who won the Heron Nationals. Melissa Yeomans from DeckHardware was on hand as a friend of Greg’s with the company van with spares just in case. There were so many other sailors that needed assistance DeckHardware decided to fit out the van with a small workshop for future events we visit. Next year brings the 50th Anniversary for the Cherub class Nationals at Belmont, Lake Macquarie NSW. We look forward to being part of this celebration and hope that previous winners come out of the woodworks for this incredible achievement. Phil Yeomans of DeckHardware sailed Cherub’s close to their inception and will no doubt be spending time at this event. Melissa recently spent the week at the 46th Combined High Schools Sailing Championships (CHS) in conjunction with 34th Australian Secondary Schools Sailing Championship and 37th NSW Secondary Schools Sailing Championships. An event that tested all those in attendance, competitors and race officers alike. What was with that weather! Breeze, No Breeze, pouring rain and boiling hot! From freezing in the rain to crews going swimming and capsizing on purpose or being capsized by other competitors during the postponement! Watching the skill levels of some of the sailors out on the water was fantastic for a High School event. It was great to see so many different classes being sailed so well. In particular the leading Flying Eleven sailors who I enjoyed watching sailed extremely well. It was also great watching people sailing something new to them or giving a regatta a go. With the inclusion of Allen we are now in a position of being able to supply a support van to local Regattas like the CHS. Our first trial of this new setup was the CHS at Belmont. DeckHardware is grateful for the support of Rhys and Georgia Llewellyn, James Gough, Liz Gazzard and Greg and Emma Harris. Thanks so much for your help in keeping the van company! Special thanks to Rhys who helped re rig a couple of boats along with Georgia, Kate and Emma who took time to write and draw on the whiteboard to be displayed in the van. Emma even went to the effort of drawing brand logos. It was a fantastic experience and we will be doing this at regattas in the future. So keep an eye out for the newly stickered DeckHardware van! Thanks Rhys for putting the stickers on. Special Congratulations go to DeckHardware Ambassador Georgia for coming Third in the Laser Radial plus Emma who assisted Melissa at the van and her crew Susie Milton who came Third in the Australian Girls Division. Congratulations to all competitors and especially to the Division winners. It is a great event to meet sailors from other classes and perhaps sail something you would not normally compete in. |
