Sam Webb

Sam Webb (Crew) & Nick Evans (Helm) Sailing 29er Skiff

Name: Sam Webb

Age: 15

Home sailing club: Royal Lymington Yacht Club

Current Class: 29er

Interesting Fact: Top speed in our 29er so far is 31 kph!!

Favourite Sailing experiences: Representing team GBR in Estonia with the Optimist Development team. Winning the RS Feva ranking series in 2019/20 and training with the National squad. Racing in the 29er fleet with my team mate and helm Nick Evans. It was a fairly damp learning curve with a lot of swimming but we are really enjoying it and starting to become competitive. Finishing the end of last year with as top Juniors and 12th overall in the 80 strong fleet we hope to build on that this year.

Age I learnt to sail and type of boat: Aged 5, I began sailing poly oppies at the Salterns sailing club. Our parents would stand in the water in waders and if we could sail upwind to them, we’d  get sweets!

Sailing Role Model: It has to be Ben Ainslie. I remember watching him, aged 7, win Olympic Gold in the Finn in 2012 and since then I have met him a couple of times. He has always inspired me.

Favourite venue: I will always love sailing at Lymington as it is where I learnt to race but I also really enjoy Weybiza!

Favourite boat: The 29er especially when its windy but I also would love to sail a 49er and a wasp. When it’s too windy for sailing, I love blasting around on my windsurfer.
