RS200 Fitting Guide
Updated 2025
The RS200 is a two-person dinghy, designed in 1995 by Phil Morrison and built by RS Sailing. The boat has stood the test of time and proved itself year after year as one of the best two-person sailing boats in the UK. The class regularly sells out its National Championships with 100-plus entries coming from a wide audience of young and old sailors.
The boat is now on its second version, with the hull remaining the same as it was in 1995 and the deck and cockpit now having a fresher, more modern layout.
Allen was the original hardware supplier of choice for the RS200 and is still available on new builds, although the fittings lists do vary slightly.
This RS200 fittings list is based on the original deck layout, but is an up-to-date modern racing fitout which has been approved by our Team Allen sailors.

Transom Fittings
It is important to check that all fittings around the transom are well sealed, as this is an area which is known to let in small amounts of water.
Hatch Cover – A.337 & A.338 – Ensure the cover is always fastened tightly to stop any water leaks. It’s also recommended to leave hatch covers off when the boat is not in use, to allow the hull to “breathe”.
Bung – A.323
Rudder Retaining Clip – A1923
Toe Strap Lacing Eyes – A4388 – There are three of these near the transom on the old-style deck. The toe straps are attached to the middle one. Elastic take-ups are tied to the respective side.
Mainsheet Fittings
The mainsheet on the RS200 can either run inside the boom or outside. Some believe that when it runs inside, it adds slightly more friction at the points where the sheet enters and exits the boom. If running the sheet externally a support (cover) must run 50% of the external sheet length.
Strop Block – A2040Tii or A2040 – If using the A2040Tii, it is recommended to use a Tii-Shackle in a figure-of-eight configuration to ensure the cheeks of the blocks are not separated.
Boom End Block – A2040 & A-621104 – If running the mainsheet internally, it is important to get the block as high inside the boom as possible to limit the rubbing of the mainsheet when exiting the boom.
Mid Boom Block – A2040 attached to A4258 boom slide.
Gybing Strop – A.156
Ratchet Block – A2160, A4388, A.622, A4033 or A5166ASS – The ratchet block set-up is a personal choice. Many in the class prefer to remove the mainsheet jammer in order to make trimming the sail easier. If you do remove the mainsheet jammer, a swivel base is not needed as the 60mm Pro-Ratchet has a built-in swivel.
Kicker Fittings
Thwart Cleat – A.677-497 & A4665 – Two of each of these parts are needed for the kicker, one for each side. The A4665 helps guide the rope into the cleat. The A.677-497 allows for the control line to be pulled at any angle and be cleated easily.
Under Thwart Block – A2022A & A5405N– Two of each of these parts are needed, one for each side. The Cunningham will also share this block. (A2022A maximum of 2 needed per boat for both Cunningham and Kicker). Attached to A4388 lacing eye.
Kicker Fixing Point (forward of the centreboard) – A4388, A2020SC – Two of each of these parts are needed, one for each side.
Mast Step – A2022, A1438 – Remove the clevis pin from the A1438. Remove the bolt from the mast step. Insert the A2022 onto the A1438 and then insert the A1438 in between the mast step. Replace the bolt for the mast step to hold A1438 in place.
Top Kicker Block – A2030HLF attached to A4258 boom slide.
Second Kicker Block – A2020Tii
Third Kicker Block – A2022Tii
Fourth Kicker Block – A2020Tii-Shackle or A2020 & A5404S – Attach via Tii-shackle to the bolt on inside of mast step.
Kicker Guide for Helm – A..87-20 – Drill a small hole in the hand rail just above the thwart. Using Dyneema, splice an A..87-20 to the hole in the handrail. The thimble can then be used to guide the control line nearer to the side of the boat. Making it easier to adjust whilst sailing.
Cunningham Fittings
Thwart Cleat – A.677-497 & A4665 – Two of each of these parts are needed for the kicker, one for each side. The A4665 helps guide the rope into the cleat. The A.677-497 allows for the control line to be pulled at any angle and be cleated easily.
Under Thwart Block – A2022A & A5405N – Two of each of these parts are needed, one for each side. The kicker will also share this block. (A2022A maximum of 2 needed per boat for both Cunningham and Kicker). Attached to A4388 lacing eye.
Kicker Fixing Point (forward of the centreboard) – A4388, A2020SC – Two of each of these parts are needed, one for each side.
Top Block – A2020Tii
Cunningham Guide for Helm – A..87-20 – Drill a small hole in the hand rail just above the thwart. Using Dyneema, splice an A..87-20 to the hole in the hand rail. The thimble can then be used to guide the control line nearer to the side of the boat. Making it easier to adjust whilst sailing.
Jib Fittings
Jib Sheet Cleats and Track: A4587
Jib Halyard: There are a few ways to set up the Jib halyard tension system. Our recommended option gives a super strong, easy-to-hook and makes pulling rig tension easier. Just use the following:
Hook: A4689 x 1
Shackle for hook to block: A5405N x 1
Top Double Block: A2032 Double Dynamic Block x 1
Bottom Mast Base Block: A2030SC or A2030Tii – 30mm Block.
Jib Halyard Cleat – CL211MK2
Bottom Deck Mouted Block: A2020SC 20mm Single Swivel Block
Spinnaker Fittings
Spinnaker Halyard Blocks – 4 x A2020 – You will need four A2020 blocks, one mounted behind the spinnaker bag for retrieval. One spliced to the crew toe strap fittings, just in front of the spinnaker cleat – it’s important that this block is set at the correct height and held up with some elastic. If the block is too low, it will make dropping the spinnaker difficult, as the halyard could get stuck in the cleat. If it’s too high, it will make hoisting harder as it won’t automatically cleat the rope when hoisting. – One tied to the spinnaker pole launcher line and one used to direct the spinnaker halyard up to the mast (fixed next the the spinnaker cleat).
Spinnaker Pole Cheek Block – A2026
Spinnaker Halyard Take Up Blocks – A2020 & A2020Tii-Shackle – Attach the A2020Tii with Tii-shackle to the lacing eye which holds the cockpit rubber bung for the self bailer. Tie some elastic to the A2020, feed it through the A2020Tii and then tie it off on the kicker fixing point at the front of the crew area. The spinnaker halyard can then be fed either side of the thwart and through the A2020. If the elastic is set correctly, it will keep the Halyard tight and make hoisting and dropping the spinnaker easier as you will not get any knots/ tangles in the halyard.
Spinnaker Sheet Blocks – 2 x A21401 or 2 x A2040Tii-Shackle – Spinnaker blocks are personal preference. If you want more feel from the spinnaker sheet, then the A2040Tii will offer a better responsive feel, but will make the spinnaker much harder to hold onto. It will also make gybing easier as the sheets will run more freely through the gybe. The A21401 is a ratchet block, so it will add friction to the sheets, reducing the load on the line and making it easier to hold.
Spinnaker Sheets – we have tried and tested the Robline Machine Tapered Sheets on the RS200. The 420 version cut down 1.25m on each end works perfectly for the RS200. Check them out here: 420 Tapered Sheets
Outhaul Fittings
The images below show a very over-engineered solution. But if you wish to create the same, you can use an A..87-20 Thimble and an A20110 Tii-Shackle. This set up was used so the outhaul primary could be tied to the boom to keep it secure, and the Tii-Shackle used to release the outhaul when rigging.
Internal Block – A2020
External Block – A2020 & A4388
External Clamcleat – C211M2
Other Fittings
Crew Toe Strap Fittings – 2 x A4073
Foredeck Hatch Cover – A.537-BAG – This hatch cover comes with a built-in bag to hold all your tasty snacks whilst sailing. Ensure the cover is always fastened tightly to stop any water leaks. It’s also recommended to leave hatch covers off when the boat is not in use, to allow the hull to “breathe”.
Shroud Fittings – 2 x A4972 & 2 x A4871X
Tiller Extension – A5511 or A4698B
Mast Head Aerovane – A..71 & A4066
Self Drainer Bung – A1231 & A4388
